Yesterday we took an hour and a half flight to the town of Kihiihi on the tiniest plane I've ever been on. When we landed on the dirt track right next to the dirt parking lot where there was supposed to be an "airport," we met our new friends from Girls To Lead Africa. The beautiful landscape around the sad hotel turned out to be a great soccer field, so we played soccer almost all day!
Today, the Girls to Lead Africa group led us to three schools where we got to meet lots of students. The organization teaches girls that they can be more than just a wife who stays at home and cooks, but that she can be anything that she wants to be. The girls we met were all very inspiring. Their speeches were amazing and they talked about becoming politicians in Uganda. To help them on their way, they became leaders in school - they had a Health Prefect, a Sports Prefect, a Time Keeper, a Head Prefect and many other positions.
When they saw us, they were very excited. They ran and crowded around us, seven girls held my left hand, five held my right hand, and four played with my hair. It was sort of overwhelming. The last school we went to is the girls champion soccer school in the district (out of many many schools). We brought a soccer ball to give to them. We learned that Lugandan isn't their first language, so even though we are trying to learn Lugandan, it was kind of a waste of time in Kihiihi because they speak 1 of 80 different languages in Uganda. I also learned that I look like a 5 year princess. OUCH!! That is all for today, I rest my case!
p.s. the internet in Uganda was slow and we have power outages all the time, so this is from a few days ago. We're in Tanzania!
